Nothing Can Be Changed Unless We Face It
By Lindsey Halman, upforlearning.org
The opportunity to engage in the Walking With White series was transformative for myself personally and professionally. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, my two colleagues and I suddenly found it possible to participate from Vermont!
The geographic diversity created rich dialogue and a deeper understanding of the complexities of what it means to exist in a white body. As a small non-profit organization focused on youth and adults reimagining and transforming education together, this series advanced our work in embodying the core principles and values of our organization.
The six weeks were an anchor for us and we were able to infuse our own learning and reflections into our daily work. We are incredibly grateful for the timing of this opportunity and for the thoughtful facilitation. The strong facilitation, despite the virtual platform, created a strong sense of connectedness.
I am committed to living in a state of discomfort because as James Baldwin stated, "nothing can be changed unless we face it."
