Kindness Goes a Long Way
- Written by Lotus Billand, a Springhouse Learner -
Hello all, my name is Lotus Billand. I am currently a sophomore at Springhouse Community School. This is my fourth year coming to this amazing school and I would not want to leave this community because not only is this a school but in many ways, it is a family. So to begin, in our Empowerment in the Modern Moment class at Springhouse, we had an assignment to do a small act of kindness for somebody. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have all of our classes online. Quarantine has made it hard to see people and do kind things for them. I was thinking of what I could do and many things crossed my mind, but I decided that I
was going to choose something that I knew was going to be special. I decided to sing for my grandfather. He loves music in every way, shape, and form. I took four years of piano and have always loved to sing, so as my small act of kindness, I sat him down and had a jam session. I played piano and was singing, he played the harp and the flute, and the room filled with laughter and smiles. Not only did this act of kindness bring joy to my grandfather’s day, but it also made me realize how much singing and music can improve my day as well. I think that's why I chose to do this. This crisis is scary for elderly people and I wanted to get my grandfather and my mind off the stress and panic that this has brought us. In conclusion, I will be making more music with him in the days to come.
