"If you can learn how to use your mind, anything is possible." ~ Wim Hof, Becoming Ice Man
Every Friday Springhouse learners, and homeschooling students, are strengthening their physical resiliency skills in our Discovery Learning Program. They are running obstacle courses, hiking, doing yoga asana practice, and engaging in the Wim Hof method facilitated by Jason Walker.
What is the Wim Hof method? Wim Hof is an extreme athlete (sometimes called the Ice Man) who is noted for his ability to withstand freezing cold temperatures. There are three powerful pillars to his method including cold therapy, breathing, and commitment. Last week, learners did timed exercises with Jason using freezing cold ice water. They held their hand in the water for several timed sessions. After the session, learners were vibrant and alive, and were so excited about their learning that they couldn’t stop talking about it!
Here is what some of them have to say about it:
"I am learning breathing exercises in this class that are helping me with anxiety I have felt for a while. I am now practicing these exercises at home and they are helping me."
"I am learning how to use my breathing to make it through difficult things."
"The water is really cold but as I learn how to breathe, I can keep my hand in longer."
The Wim Hof method is giving learners the opportunity to practice resiliency by learning skills that help them through challenging situations. A big thank you to Jason Walker for facilitating this course!
