Finding Ground: Sacred Dance Series

Updated: Jan 14

By Abby Reczek

In a time where I was looking for a way to do something solely for myself, something that could help me build up my trust in myself and find my ground, I was invited to join the Sacred Dance series hosted by Springhouse Community School. I came to the class not knowing many of the dancers and feeling very vulnerable, but also knowing how much I loved to dance and how good it made me feel.

Through Sacred Dance I have been able to get more comfortable with the impact dance has on me. For me, dance is transformative emotionally, physically and spiritually. Sacred Dance helps to celebrate those elements and allows me to tap into the uses of dance that I had only just tasted when dancing away from the class. The community of dancers is welcoming and warm and offers a space where I feel comfortable exploring. Through the class, I have also been able to get to know about the school and how it works with teens to develop and learn in ways I wasn't afforded.

I began Sacred Dance over the summer of 2019 and have not missed a session yet. I continue to use this practice as something that remains wholly for me and my well being and aim to keep doing so. There are not many things I have found that give back to me in the same way as this class, which only reinforces its importance in my life.
