Springhouse is currently offering an online course for adults, Empowerment in the Modern Moment, which has over 40 participants from all over the country. In our last class, Jenny asked us adults what we would say to a teenager who said to us, “I’m scared.”
Below are the responses:
You got this
It's okay to be scared
We're all in this together
You are not alone
Don’t hog all the bandwidth
His will pass, it will be OK
Me too, and that’s OK
We are all connected and holding space for each other
Learn something new everyday and get outside
We’ve got this and we’re in it together. I believe in us.
You can get through this moment
Want to go outside?
You are loved
You can do this
You are not alone and go outside.
Ask for what you need, even if you can’t ask a parent
Stay in the present moment
Empathy is helpful
Feel the strength of the ground under you
Me too - how do we get through this together
Have faith; just breathe.
Reach out. Drink water. Exercise. Do something creative.
Yes, it feels scary and an unusual experience....and we're together in it.... and when you feel that the most strongly, notice the present moment, take a deep breath and feel your feet on the ground.
I’m scared, too, and we’ll get through this together.
Ask for help.
Give me a hug!
We can do scary things
Thank you for sharing
Reach out to people. Even though you can't see people in person, you aren't alone and you should still reach for connection.
Thank you for trusting me
I love you!
I believe in you and you will make it through this.
Go outside and breathe deeply, the answer’s already inside you
In closing, we were encouraged to tell ourselves these messages, too. The inner teen in us needs to be heard and acknowledged. And now these words are here for us all... Feel free to add your own words of encouragement in the comments below!
