Darkness: Why Hate Her?

- Written by Jack Walker, Springhouse Learner -

Usually when we think of Darkness we give her a bad name and reputation.

She helps us hide and be safe; yet we run away because we are afraid of what

secrets she hides.

She helps us think; yet we turn on the lights because our mind tells us that we

should be afraid of her.

She is not as harsh as the Light once you get to know her; yet we still rely on

Light because we are not accustomed to seeing the beauty of Darkness.

She can show us little jewels that the Light can’t; yet we are afraid of trusting

her because we do not know what we will see when we close our eyes.

She can train us to get used to the unknown; yet we treat her as if she is evil.

Darkness is far more than what we judge her as.

She holds the key to unlocking the gate of whatever you are afraid of crossing

into.

Do not let your fear overcome you because you will achieve nothing but fear.

As Gandhi said “The enemy is fear, but we think it is hate; but it is fear.”

If we were not afraid of the dark, then we could live better in life.
