I first became part of the Springhouse community last winter as a participant in The Well young adult program, and I have also been attending Sacred Dance series and retreats for all of 2018. Having lived a good portion of my adult life within Zen Buddhist monastic communities, I know what it is to uphold a culture of spiritual connection with my peers, coworkers, and neighbors; I also know how rare such culture is in our world. Since becoming involved in Springhouse, a sense of spiritual ground has returned, stemming from that culture of deep authentic connection to community, nature, and self. I believe the growth, strengthening, and diversification of this kind of culture is what's most needed to heal our planet.
Joining hands in circle before dance or ceremony, I feel held by love and belonging. I feel challenged to show up in my authentic wholeness because only there can I rise to be a part of the integral web of support. The Springhouse community has helped me begin to bridge the gap between adolescence and true adulthood, where I might settle more deeply upon myself. It has offered a context in which this transition can be recognized, celebrated, and witnessed, as well as making it possible for me to be a part of that support for others.
